Funeral Director
Bryan Price is a native of Winnfield, Louisiana, born in 1970. He graduated from Winnfield Senior High School in 1988 and attended Louisiana College. A fourth-generation funeral director, Bryan joined the staff of Southern Funeral Homes, Inc. in August 1993, continuing a family tradition of compassionate service to the families of Winn Parish and surrounding communities.
For Bryan, funeral service has always been more than a profession. It is an opportunity to serve people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Throughout his career, he has sought to be a steady and compassionate presence for families as they face the loss of a loved one, helping them navigate the many decisions that accompany a death while giving careful attention to the individual needs, wishes, and traditions of each family. He believes that every person entrusted to his care deserves dignity and respect, and that every family deserves patience, understanding, and personal attention.
Bryan is the great-grandson of Mr. R. W. Bryan, Sr. and Mrs. Janie Spurlock Bryan, founders of Southern Funeral Home; the grandson of Mr. W. E. Price and Mrs. Evelyn Bryan Price; and the son of Mr. Jerry M. Price and Mrs. Patricia Jarnagin Harrison. As a fourth-generation funeral director, Bryan considers it both an honor and a responsibility to continue the tradition of service established by his great-grandparents and carried forward by the generations of his family who followed.
Over more than three decades in funeral service, Bryan has had the privilege of caring for generations of families throughout Winn Parish and the surrounding communities. He has developed relationships with families that extend well beyond the funeral service itself, often serving families whose parents, grandparents, and other relatives were entrusted to the care of Southern Funeral Home. These longstanding relationships have reinforced for him the importance of trust, compassion, and simply being present when people need someone they can rely upon.
A lifelong resident of Winnfield, Bryan has been active in his community, church, and civic organizations. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Winnfield and is currently a member of First United Methodist Church of Winnfield. His faith and his lifelong connection to Winnfield have been important influences on his understanding of service to others and his commitment to the community he has called home throughout his life.
Bryan is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association. He served as Governor of the North District of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association from 2003–2004 and was honored as the North District Funeral Director of the Year in 2007. He later served two years on the Policy Board of the National Funeral Directors Association and served as President of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association from 2020–2021. Through these professional organizations, he has worked not only to advance the profession of funeral service, but also to uphold the standards of care and professionalism that families deserve.
Bryan has devoted many years to Freemasonry. He is a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the York Rite Bodies. He has served as Worshipful Master of Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 F&AM in 2003 and 2009, Rosemary Lodge No. 278 F&AM in 2007, and O. K. Allen Lodge No. 33 F&AM in 2011 and 2012. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Fifth Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana F&AM in 2010. Bryan is also a Past Patron of Palestine Chapter No. 55, Order of the Eastern Star, and is a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Monroe and York Rite Bodies of Winnfield.
Bryan has been involved in numerous civic, historical, and community organizations. He is a member of the Winnfield Kiwanis Club, a Past President of the Winn Genealogical and Historical Society, and served as President of the Winn Parish Fire Protection District from 2017–2018. He served as Deputy Coroner for the Winn Parish Coroner’s Office for twelve years and previously served as Justice of the Peace, Ward 7, Winn Parish, State of Louisiana. These experiences have provided him with additional opportunities to serve his community and its families in times of both difficulty and need.
His historical interests and family research have led to membership in the Lt. Col. William Walker Camp No. 1738, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Enemund Meullion Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in Alexandria, Louisiana. His interest in local and family history reflects a deep appreciation for the people, families, and traditions that have shaped Winnfield and the surrounding communities.
Throughout his career, Bryan has remained dedicated to preserving the traditions of funeral service while recognizing that compassionate care must always remain at its heart. He believes that funeral directing is ultimately about people—about listening to families, honoring the lives of those who have died, and helping those who remain find their way through a difficult time with dignity and understanding.
Bryan's faith is also an important part of how he approaches both life and his calling to serve others. A Scripture that has held particular meaning for him throughout his life is Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” These words reflect his belief that even in times of loss and uncertainty, God's purpose and presence remain steadfast.
As a fourth-generation funeral director and lifelong member of the Winnfield community, Bryan is proud to continue the legacy of service established by his great-grandparents and carried forward by his family for nearly a century. His greatest responsibility, and one he considers a privilege, is to care for each family entrusted to him with the same respect, compassion, and personal attention that he would want for his own family.

Matt Miller has been a licensed Funeral Director / Embalmer with Southern Funeral Homes since July, 2003.
He is a native of Marion, Union Parish, Louisiana and a graduate of Farmerville High School, The University of Louisiana at Monroe and The Dallas Institute of Funeral Service.
Matt currently serves on the Winnfield City Council representing District 4 and has previously served as Mayor Pro Tem (2011-12 and 2016-17). He is married to the former Wendy Rogers from Downsville, Louisiana. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Mattie and Emma.

Pat Price is a fourth-generation funeral director and co-owner of Southern Funeral Homes, Inc. The firm primarily serves families in Winn, Jackson, Grant, LaSalle, Bienville, and Natchitoches Parishes. Pat works alongside his uncle, cousin, and a caring staff in the day-to-day leadership of the firm, overseeing arrangements, cemetery operations, memorial products, and the overall care of the families the firm is privileged to serve.
Southern Funeral Homes was established in 1939 by Pat’s great-grandfather. The business has remained in the family ever since, with each generation continuing the tradition of personal, compassionate service. Pat grew up in the business and formally joined the firm in 1982. Over more than four decades, he has upheld the values of integrity and attentive care that have defined Southern Funeral Homes for generations. In 2016, the family expanded the firm’s reach by acquiring and merging a longtime competitor, strengthening the company’s ability to serve families across the region.
Pat earned a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Marketing, with a minor in Music, from Louisiana College, now Louisiana Christian University, and later served on its Board of Trustees. For more than thirty years, he also traveled and sang gospel music, including appearances in several Gaither Homecoming videos.
Today, Pat continues to handle many of the practical and personal details that matter most to families—working closely with vendors, managing cemetery markers and memorialization, and ensuring every arrangement reflects the wishes and values of those being served. He is known for a steady, straightforward approach and a genuine commitment to treating every family with the same care he would expect for his own.

Mr. Larry L. Price, age 71 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Houston, TX following a lengthy illness. Born December 26, 1939 in Downsville, Louisiana, he was the son of the late William Ervin and Evelyn (Bryan) Price.

He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Winnfield where he taught Sunday school for over 50 years. He was Past President of the Louisiana Funeral Director’s Association, 1989-90; Past President of the Louisiana Insurer’s Conference, 1995-96; First President and organizer of the Winn Parish Chamber of Commerce; Past President of the Winnfield Rotary Club of which he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Price was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 F&AM of Winnfield, and a Gideon. He also served on the Winnfield City Council from 1970-74.

Price and wife Lisa of Winnfield; three nephews, Bryan Price of Winnfield, Michael Price of Pineville, and Will Dearmon of Winnfield; two nieces, Leigh Anne Webster and husband Adam of Vero Beach Florida, and Anna Dearmon of Baton Rouge.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the First Baptist Church of Winnfield with Dr. Calvin Phelps and Revs. Lindsey Burns and Stephen Laughlin officiating. Music will be provided by Brenda Etheridge, Dr. Benjamin Harlan and Rev. John Holland. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Homes.

William “Bill” Wayne Staples, age 74 of Weston, took the hand of his Lord and Savior and was welcomed through Heaven’s gates on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
Mr. Bill was man that was easy to love and if you met him then you know. He loved the Lord, his family, church family and his community. He proudly served the in the United States Army and has proudly served his community, in many fashions, since his honorable discharge in 1972. He and his long-time friend, Bill Brown helped bring and found the Jaycees for the Parish in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Mr. Bill is well known for being the radio voice for the Jonesboro-Hodge Tiger Football team on 94.1 KRLQ. He was the Jackson Parish Coroner for approximately four decades and acted as deputy coroner prior to being elected into office. He has been a funeral director/embalmer for nearly 50 years, the manager at Southern Funeral Home in Jonesboro and has been a blessing through-out the years for countless families. He was awarded a plaque from the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association, North District, and honored as the Funeral Director of the Year. Mr. Bill enjoyed being a part of the Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame. Keeping these skilled sportsman’s accomplishments remembered and recognized was an event that he worked hard on and he felt blessed to be a part of each year. Mr. Bill was also an ordained Baptist minister and was the pastor at Union Baptist Church until his health would no longer allow him to. He used his ministry through the church and the funeral home to help countless individuals and families over time. He was fond of being a nameless, faceless blessing like when he would see a young family out to lunch and pay for theirs on his way out, never and letting the family of strangers know of his good deed. He always gave to any cause, even if it was his last dime. He also would give anyone a chance no matter their circumstance or history. He always could look past the sin and just love the person; absolute love without judgement. He was a simple southern Christian man with a sweet soul and a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory is beloved wife of 52 years, Janice DelRio Staples; son, Bradly Wayne Staples and wife Stacey; grandchildren, Matthew Lamkin, Carrie LaRe Head and husband Clint, Tomas Stinson and wife Amy, Brandon Staples, Brianna Staples, Brody Staples, Braxton Staples; great grandchildren, Kyle Staples, Lilly Head, Ayla Stinson; brothers, Mike Staples, Tim Staples and wife Kelly; sister in law, Genoria Staples; furless furbaby, Miss Piggy. He was preceded in death and now reunited with his daughter, Cherae Stinson; grandson, Christopher Lamkin; parents, Carey Mims and Annie (McBride) Staples; brother, Carey Mac Staples.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 23, 2022 in the chapel of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home from 5:00PM-8:00PM. Funeral services are set for 2:00PM in the chapel on Sunday, July 24, 2022 with Reverends Stuart Toms, Mike Staples and Bro. Nollie Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Springhill Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.

Mr. Bill was also an ordained Baptist minister and was the pastor at Union Baptist Church until his health would no longer allow him to. He used his ministry through the church and the funeral home to help countless individuals and families over time. He was fond of being a nameless, faceless blessing like when he would see a young family out to lunch and pay for theirs on his way out, never and letting the family of strangers know of his good deed. He always gave to any cause, even if it was his last dime. He also would give anyone a chance no matter their circumstance or history. He always could look past the sin and just love the person; absolute love without judgement. He was a simple southern Christian man with a sweet soul and a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory is beloved wife of 52 years, Janice DelRio Staples; son, Bradly Wayne Staples and wife Stacey; grandchildren, Matthew Lamkin, Carrie LaRe Head and husband Clint, Tomas Stinson and wife Amy, Brandon Staples, Brianna Staples, Brody Staples, Braxton Staples; great grandchildren, Kyle Staples, Lilly Head, Ayla Stinson; brothers, Mike Staples, Tim Staples and wife Kelly; sister in law, Genoria Staples; furless furbaby, Miss Piggy. He was preceded in death and now reunited with his daughter, Cherae Stinson; grandson, Christopher Lamkin; parents, Carey Mims and Annie (McBride) Staples; brother, Carey Mac Staples.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 23, 2022 in the chapel of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home from 5:00PM-8:00PM. Funeral services are set for 2:00PM in the chapel on Sunday, July 24, 2022 with Reverends Stuart Toms, Mike Staples and Bro. Nollie Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Springhill Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Hank Staples, Bill Brown, Calhaen DelRio, Jeremy DelRio, Clint Head, Ben Ledbetter.
