Mrs. Yvonne Cockerham Jordan, age 81 of Winnfield, Louisiana gained her angel wings on Sunday, May 21, 2023, after a lengthy illness. The family would like to thank Autumn Leaves Nursing Home, Hill Top Nursing Home, and Compassionate Care Hospice for the care and compassion they provided Mrs. Jordan during her illness. She lived a life of servitude to the lord and her family.

Born April 11, 1942 in Columbia, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents Homer Varnell, Sr, and Tommie May (Cryer) Vamell; her first husband of 42 years, John Cockerham Sr.; her second husband of 21 years, Joe Butler Jordan; and siblings Earl Varnell, Hormer Varnell Jr, Russell Varnell, Patsy Clark and Shirley Varnell Johns.

Yvonne was a graduate from Winnfield Senior High School. She worked as a Civil Deputy for the Winn Parish Sheriff Dept, for eight years. She graduated Northwestern State University with a BA in social science in education in 1985, a degree in Social Studies in 1987 and SPED mild/moderate in 2003. She worked for the Grant Parish School Board until she retired in 2007. She loved her job as an educator and working with the children. She loved kids with all her heart.

Yvonne was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved and cared for her family immensely. She was a hugger. Knowing Yvonne, you knew that she loved and cared for you. She would do anything to help anyone in need. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Order of the Eastern Star, and Big Creek Baptist Church. She was also an avid hunter and outdoors person. She would often be found in the woods hunting deer. She loved working in her garden and you would find her canning the veggies from her garden. Yvonne also loved to crochet and sew.

Yvonne leaves behind her son, John (Burt) Cockerham and his wife Theresa, her stepson Glen Jordan and his wife Karen, and her grandchildren Lauralie Cockerham, Sarah Conroy and her husband Joseph, Christian Cockerham, Preston Cockerham and his wife Renee, Joshua Desadier and his wife Alisha, her great grandchildren Wesley Trahan, Avery Conroy, Alyssa Conroy and multitude of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Viewing will be on Friday, May 25, 2023 at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, LA, from 5:00- 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 26 at 10:00 am at Southern Funeral Home, with interment immediately following the service in Old Union Cemetery on Hwy 499 in Joyce, Louisiana under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
