William Calvin "Billy" Phelps, age 64, of Natchitoches, LA, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2024, in Natchitoches, LA.
He was born on December 27, 1959, in Jackson, MS, to Mary K. "Kat" Burney Phelps and Dr. Calvin E. Phelps.
William, known affectionately as "Billy" to his loved ones, was a cherished member of the community. He dedicated many years of his life to the healthcare industry and to Northwestern State University, where his passion for helping others shone brightly. His commitment to education and service was unwavering.
A devout member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Winnfield, LA, William found solace and strength in his faith. He was known for his generous spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. William's love for the arts was evident in his advocacy and support for various artistic endeavors, and he himself was a talented painter whose creations brought joy to many.
Billy is survived by his loving parents, Mary K. "Kat" Phelps and Dr. Calvin Phelps; his brothers Russell Eugene "Rusty" Phelps, Benjamin Louis "Benjie" Phelps, and Jonathan Carroll "Jon" Phelps; uncle, Carroll Lewis Phelps; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
The pallbearers honoring Billy's memory are Rusty Phelps, Benjie Phelps, Jon Phelps, Peyton Phelps, Walker Phelps, and Robin Cummings.
A public visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral service, officiated by Dr. Jerry Pipes, will follow at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church.
Interment will take place in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, officiated by Father Frank Fuller, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
