Mr. Waylan Lamar "Mar" Harlan born January 1, 1942 in Minden, Louisiana to Thomas Edward and Nellie May Wise Harlan, entered his eternal rest on April 14, 2026 at his home in Tannehill, Louisiana.
Mr. Harlan is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Carolyn McManus Harlan; his parents; his brothers, Nelson and Ray Tolbert; and one sister Christine McMillen.
Lamar worked for 40 plus years for pipeliner's local union #798 in Tulsa, Oklahoma from which he retired in 2000. Lamar attended Zion Hill Baptist Church in Tannehill where he was also a deacon. He also drove a log truck for Pete McFarland and Michael Franks.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are his sons, Jeff Harlan (Linda), James Harlan (Deborah); daughter, Shannon Harlan; brother, Wayne Harlan (Judy); and sister Mary Bilyeu (Woody). He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Jonanthan Harlan (Becky), Brianna Sthram (Rhett), Jacqueline Shepherd (Tye), Lauren Cogle (Blake); great-grandchildren Ellie Harlan, Collin Sthram, Thomas Sthram, Savannah Sthram and Emily Shepherd.
The family will receive friends at Southern Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and then again on Friday from 9:00AM until 11:00AM.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Norris Curry and Rev. Huedy Beaubouef officiating. Interment will follow the service in Mars Hill Cemetery of Verda, Louisiana.
Those honored to serve the family as pallbearers are Carl Young, Rhett Sthram, Tim Boone, Lee Boone, Randy Harlan, and Tye Shepherd. Honorary pallbearers are Blake Cogle, Derek Martin, Andy HArlan and Tandy Harlan.
The family wishes to extended a special thank you to the entire Tannehill Community, Hand in Hand Hospice and a host of nieces, nephews and the most wonderful neighbors anyone could ask for.
