Velda Mae Johnson, a beloved resident of Dodson, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 90.

Velda was born on Friday, October 7, 1932, in Winnfield, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Ollie Thompson McCarty; her devoted father, Andrew G. McCarty; her beloved husband, J. W. "Pete" Johnson; her infant son; her daughter, Kathy Fallis (Ronald); her great grandson, Bradley Wilson Garrett; her great great grandson, Krue Young; her sisters, Vivian Sagalas and Wardell Skains; and her brothers, A. G. McCarty, Alton McCarty, and Jamie McCarty.

Throughout her life, Velda exemplified dedication and love as a devoted wife for 52 years. She was a cherished member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and served as a rural mail carrier for 25 years. Velda was also renowned for her passion for gardening, nurturing a yard brimming with beautiful flowers.

Velda's memory will forever be treasured by her surviving family members, including her son, Keith Johnson (Delores); and her grandchildren, Brian, Brandi, Tyler, Jill, Amy, Rhonda, Robin, and Stephen.

The family will receive friends and loved ones to pay their respects on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Welcome Home Baptist Church, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Another visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 10:00 AM until the start of the services.

A heartfelt funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Welcome Home Baptist Church, with Rev. Jamie Palmer officiating. Following the service, Velda will be laid to rest in the New Hope Cemetery in Dodson.

Honoring Velda's memory, pallbearers will be Jonathan Palmer, Corey Young, Josh Young, Lamar Skains, Avery Palmer, and Scott Terral. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Carlos, Zachary Carlos, Bryce Carlos, Brian Morrow, and Terry Skains.
