Sue (Whatley) Bradford passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. She went to be with her Lord and Savior as well as her loving husband of 40 years Wilbur Leon Bradford, Sr.

A celebration of Sue's life with a visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home in Jena, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.  Her final service will be held at East Jena Baptist Church on Sunday. March 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mike Wilkinson and Rev. Daniel Breithaupt officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Belah Cemetery, of the Belah Community following the service under the directions of Kinner & Stevens.

Sue was born on Monday, April 3, 1939, in the Belah Community, Louisiana, to the union of Walter Steve and Florence Aseline (Price) Whatley. She attended Jena High School, where she played basketball for the Jena Giants. She was a faithful member of East Jena Baptist Church for 60 years, where she and Wilbur raised their children. Sue loved nothing more than to work in her yard. She started with a blank slate and planted every flower, bulb, and shrub. Her attention to her yard shows especially in the spring when everything is blooming. Sue was completely devoted to her family. She and Wilbur were very involved parents following their children's involvement in sports and other school activities. Being a mother was the most important role in her life. Her children describe her as being full of grace, generosity, strength, and wisdom.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Wilbur "Leon" Bradford, Jr., daughter-in-law Ginger (Crooks) Bradford, four sisters Clarice (Whatley) Cowart, Vida Ruth (Whatley) Allbritton, Ethel Dean (Whatley) Frazier, Bess (Whatley) Frye, and a brother Charlie Leon Whatley.

Sue has one surviving sister, Doris (Whatley) Andrews of Baton Rouge, LA. She has six grandchildren, Heather Bradford of Jena, William "Will" Bradford of Jena, Kensley (Bradford) Boniol of Baytown, TX, Audrey (Bradford) Wise of Hemphill, TX, Victoria Bradford of Shreveport, LA, and Evan Bradford of Hemphill, TX. She also has five great-grandchildren all of whom she loved with her entire soul. Sue is also survived by her two remaining children, Shameron "Sham" Bradford of Shreveport, LA, and Ed Bradford & wife Theresa of Alexandria, LA, all of whom will miss her daily and strive to pattern their lives in a way that reflects her.

Sue's family has a special thank you to Stephanie McCartney, who sat and spent many hours visiting with her as she reflected on the memories of her past.

Sue will be greatly missed by many friends and family. She truly touched many lives through her kindness and empathy for others. She set many examples simply by the way she lived her life.

Those honored to serve Ms. Sue and her family as pallbearers will be Brad Nichols, Levi Boniol, Walter Steve Norris, David Jones, Lance Allemand, and Joe LaCroix. Honorary pallbearers are Don Wilson and William Bradford.
