Stanley was born in Bandera, Texas to Sidney & Eunice Saathoff. Stanley grew up in Eagle Pass, Texas, leaving home at a young and tender age, taking any job that came up, even working on ranches in Mexico. After high school, he joined theU.S. Navy and became a Seabee (Construction Battalion) and sailed to Korea building and constructing behind enemy lines during the Korean conflict. After getting out of the Navy, he worked as a roughneck on oil rigs in West Texas, where he and LaJuana raised a family in Ft. Stockton. Stanley also worked for Firestone Tire, driving and road testing their tires. He then joined the U.S. Border Patrol and was one of the last of his age groups to process through the Academy at the age of 42. He ended up helping many of the new agents with their Spanish proficiency to pass and graduate from the Academy since he was fluent in Spanish.

He worked most of his career in Sierra Blanca and became the PAIC (Patrol Agent in Charge) of the Sierra Blanca Station prior to retiring. He and LaJuana then moved to El Paso where they lived for 8 years and took many cross-country trips in their motorhome traveling across the U.S. and Canada. He loved traveling with the love of his life of 61 years, LaJuana who passed away in 2021. Stanley and LaJuana finally settled in Tucson and both stayed active in the many arts and crafts offered, as well as continuing and strengthening their Christian faith. He was an avid fisherman who loved to go fishing on the Rio Grande catching record breaking catfish! Stanley was a fantastic silversmith, making jewelry for his many family members and friends, making a variety of rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings for practically just about anybody he met and knew. He was a talented artist, painting western-themed paintings admired by many. Stanley was a mechanic rebuilding many cars and trucks over the years, as well as a cook, arrowhead hunter, handyman, welder, hunter and natural outdoorsman. In fact, he was more comfortable outside than he was inside. He volunteered his time and talents with local organizations as a Spanish translator frequently. He easily made friends wherever he lived, including Ft. Stockton, Sierra Blanca and El Paso, Texas and Tucson, Arizona.

Stanley was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many. He loved being around family and friends sharing a good mealand story or joke with them, and loved those around him deeply; a love that will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Stanley passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife, LaJuana, his parents Sidney Saathoff and Eunice Sutherland, and his sister Patricia Campbell. He is survived by his two children, son Shane Saathoff and daughter Cara (Clint) Porter; grandchildren Steven Saathoff, Stacey Saathoff, Nicholas Porter (Erika) and Andrew Porter; as well as his sisters Georgia Ann Sutherland and Priscilla Diane Gonzalez, along with nieces and nephews; Russell (Michele) Huffman, Randall (Carol) Huffman, Grady Locker, Marcie Locker, Rhonda Hurst and Brandy (Richard) Manny and Brother-in-Law Ronald Roye (Barbara), along with many more grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Church located at 534 Jones Rd., in Downsville, LA, with Internment at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 1296 Downsville Rd., Downsville, immediately following the church service. & ;Services are in care of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, Louisiana.
