Sister Gayle Eileen Davis Coon claimed her heavenly reward on August 4, 2021 in Alexandria, Louisiana. Sister Gayle was born to the union of Lee Roy Davis and Vernon Clark Davis on August 17, 1944 in Archie, Louisiana. On November 16, 1960 Sister Gayle married her childhood sweetheart, the late Rev. Crawford Doyle Coon of Jena, Louisiana. Sister Gayle was under the pastorate of Bro. Mack Davidson when she received the Holy Ghost at a revival meeting at Whitehall, Louisiana on March 22, 1957. She was baptized in the creek on the way to Uncle Terry Breithaupt's. They were blessed with two wonderful children Gregory L. Coon and Vonde Leigh McClure,( husband Daniel McClure). The highlight of her life was her unwavering service to Christ and his church, Bro. Coon, her children, and grandchildren Austin McClure (wife Emily), Chaston Davis Coon and Hannah Bailey (husband John Steele). She had two great-grandchildren that were the apple of her eye Lynox Blake Bailey and L'Wren McClure.
To know Sister Gayle was truly to know and experience the love of Christ. She never met a stranger and lived each day full of Joy Unspeakable as true evidence of the presence of the Holy Ghost that lived with in her. She and Bro. Coon would be blessed greatly in a life of ministry for Christ that would lead them to the states of Louisiana, Iowa, Arkansas, and Indiana in the ministry of the gospel. They traveled to numerous countries along with extensive travel in the U.S. and Canada. She was a loving pastor's wife of Christ Temple Pentecostal Church in Jena from 1979 until the passing of Bro. Coon in November of 2020 where he also served as Senior Pastor. She was currently attending Cornerstone Apostolic Church of the Aimoch Community. She lived a wonderful and happy life encouraging family to continue to "Preach the Word" right up until her final moments. She will be a great miss to her family, church family, and the community.
She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Crawford Coon, and her parents.
Those honored to serve the family as pallbearers are Nathan Hudson, John Steele Bailey, Gary Malcomb, Austin McClure, Chaston Coon, and Kenny Davis.
The family will receive friends at Cornerstone Apostolic Church of the Aimoch Community on Monday, August 9, 2021 from 5PM until 8PM.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 2PM at the church will Rev. Dan McClure, Rev. Greg Coon, Rev. Zach Wells and Sister Inelda Seaman officiating. There will be no graveside services as requested by the family. Services are in the care of Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home.
