Sammie Crayton, Jr. "Man" born on July 2, 1941 in Bermuda, LA to Rev. Sammie Crayton, Sr. and Mary Washington Crayton. Sammie received his heavenly wings on Friday, January 7, 2023 at the age of 81.

At a very early age, Sammie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by Pastor B.J. Huey. He attended Winn Training Pinecrest High School. After high school, he became self employed as a Lawn Care Specialist. He enjoyed working on his lawn mowers, repairing the lawn mowers of others, and keeping his yard as well as yards of others well-manicured.

Sammie whole heartily loved his Mount Olive Baptist Church family and was a devoted member of the male chorus.  He faithfully attended bible study every Wednesday and church every Sunday with his neighbor, the late Deacon Calhoun. Sammie and Deacon Calhoun were always the first members at the church every time there was anything that needed to be done.  He was a faithful member until his health declined. One of his sayings was "I don't need no ride, I can walk".  He walked to church rain or shine.

Sammie loved his family very dearly and enjoyed visits and calls from them. He was always interested in hearing about what was going on in everyone's life. He never missed a graduation, wedding, baptism, birthday party, or vacation.  He loved playing his guitar and was very excited to receive his amplifier to go along with it. Whenever someone would visit he would play and sing them a song.

Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Sammie Crayton, Sr. and Mary Washington Crayton; sisters, Rebecca Lewis Jackson and Mattie Mae Demery; brothers, Otis Crayton and Clarence Crayton, Sr.

Sammie leaves to cherish his precious memory his sister, Jewel C. Flowers, Gloria Jean Felders, and Bonita Ann Crayton. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A wake service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 303 Brown Street Winnfield, LA 71483. The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00PM until 8:00PM.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 303 Brown Street Winnfield, LA 71483. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM followed by a service at 11:00AM. Interment will be at Winnfield Cemetery.
