Ruby Nell Davis Thompson Savage was born on December 15, 1933, in Jonesboro, Louisiana.  She left this Earth for her heavenly home on August 26, 2023, with family at her side.

Nell was the daughter of Arvie Melinda Davis (Hobby) and Jerry Lewis "Bee" Davis, both of Jonesboro.  She was the matriarch of the family, keeping in constant contact with her children and grandchildren.  Nell was married to James Maurice Thompson of Winnfield for 50 years, until his death in 2005.  She raised five children, James Randall Thompson, Louis Mitchell Thompson, Lisa Ann Thompson, Camille Davis Thompson, her grandson, Keith Mitchell Thompson.  In September of 2009, she married Mr. John Wayland Savage.  She and John were married for nine wonderful years.  She attended Louisiana Tech University and Nicholls State University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education and Communications.  She taught at several schools including Morgan City High School in Louisiana and the Bayside Academy in Daphne, Alabama.  She loved to read and enjoyed monthly visits with her friends at the Jonesboro Library.  She read 5 – 7 books a month.

Nell loved gardening and at one time was responsible for supplying the local grocery store with plants and flowers. When younger, her yard was a show place.  She loved camping with her late husband, John, and their camping club, the Nomads.  She loved to travel to the mountains and the beach, finding beauty and peace in nature. Whenever possible she took hot air balloon rides in the cities she visited.  She was fearless.  She loved animals and never turned away a stray.  Her list of pets includes many dogs, a parrot, a fawn, a bunny, and a pot belly pig.  Her children have this same love of animals.

Nell is preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Thompson and John Savage and her youngest daughter Camille Davis Thompson Daves Norman.  She is survived by her three children Jim, Mitch and Lisa, step daughter Mary Lynn McBride and oodles of grandchildren, step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be hosted in her honor Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Siloam Springs Community Church in Jonesboro, LA., at 10:30 AM with Bro. Wayne Morrow officiating.  A luncheon will be hosted by the family immediately following the service in the Church Recreation Hall.  Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nell's life.
