Mr. Ronald D Canerday, aged 80, of Calvin, LA, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, in Alexandria, LA. He was born on October 31, 1942, in Winnfield, LA, to the late Hessley Dee Canerday and Norine Martin Canerday.

He graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1960, and pursued higher education, achieving a B.S. in Education from Northwestern State University. In 1970, he obtained his Master's Degree in Education. Ronald began his teaching career in Luling, Louisiana, and later dedicated himself to the Winn Parish School system. He served as a principal and in various administrative roles for the Winn Parish School Board, culminating in a fulfilling 43-year tenure before retiring. Even after retirement, he remained involved with the retired teacher's association, staying connected with the educational community.

Ronald D. had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. Yet, his greatest joy was being an unwavering supporter of his grandchildren, attending their school functions and sporting events. Additionally, he held the esteemed position of chief of police in Calvin, Louisiana, where he served dutifully. He was a active member of the Winn Jaycees and owned and operated the Gulf Station in Winnfield for several years.

In his spare time, Ronald D. indulged in researching his ancestry, with a keen focus on the Bates, Luther, and Canerday families. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield and a faithful member of the Skidrow Sunday School Class, finding comfort and fellowship in his faith.

Ronald D Canerday leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. He will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his loving children, Steve Canerday (Mary) of Woodworth, Lisa McCarter of Dallas, Tx., Scott Canerday (DeEtte) of Winnfield, LA.  Ronald D.was a proud grandfather to Emily, Chris, Madeleine, Macey, and Kaylie, and a great-grandfather to Amelia. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Page (Tim), and his nephews, Victor Lee Page and Nicholas Daniel Page.

The honor of carrying Ronald D to his final resting place will be shared by dear friends and family: Victor Lee Page, Nicholas Page, Brandon Knotts, John Wayne Canerday, Cole Garrett, Bobby Joe Canerday, Jeff Canerday, Brian Canerday, and the Skid Row Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family at Southern Funeral Home on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and  at the funeral home on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The funeral service will take place at First Baptist Church on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM, with Dr. Jerry Pipes and Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating. Ronald will be laid to rest at Bethlehem Cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Bobby Bates
