Nicholas Verret, Sr. age 87, a 60 plus year resident of Winn Parish, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Born November 16, 1937, he grew up in Assumption Parish and began working in New Orleans where he met the love of his life, Sandy. They then built their lives together in Winn Parish where he had a 30 plus year career with the Louisiana Department of Transportation working on many different types of construction projects for roads and bridges in the New Orleans, Winnsboro, Winnfield and Colfax areas. Following his retirement he enjoyed writing gospel songs, poems and "random" thoughts on the Bible that he loved to share in church and with everyone he came in contact with. One of his favorite verses was Isaiah 6:8 "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying 'whom shall I send and who will go for us?' and I said, "Here I am! Send me, Lord." And he would share his love of the Lord and his faith with everyone. He always had a writing and a prayer for everyone anytime and anywhere. He loved his Crossroads Baptist Church family where he got to enjoy teaching Sunday School and playing the organ. After he was no longer able to live on his own, he was blessed with an adopted church family at Union Hill Baptist Church  where his quick wit and grateful faithfilled spirit was a blessing to all.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Ethel "Sandy" Verret, a daughter Denise Thompson and a son, Roger Verret.  Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Nicholas Verret, Jr. (Angela); son-in-law, Bill Thompson;  grandchildren, Micah Verret (Jennifer), Matthew Verret (Stephanie), Dr. Meredeth Street (Dalton), Stephanie Young (Corey), Brittany Osborn (Steve), Alex Thompson, Jennifer Johnson, Tina Thompson and  Rebecca Crowe, several great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 11, 2025 in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield with Reverends Bruce Weatherford, Denver McBroom and Nick Verret officiating. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 until time of services.

Pallbearers will be Micah Verret, Matthew Verret, Corey Young, Alex Thompson, Brad Tilton and Tim Bratton.  Honorary pallbearers are Jack McLaren and Johnny Antee.
