Nelda Thaxton Corley, 86, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, in Lake Charles, LA with her family by her side. She was born on January 19, 1939, in Florien, LA to Bernice Thaxton and Mildred Sandel Thaxton.

Nelda loved music. She sang in the church choir and played the organ for many years. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. Nelda was a huge baseball fan. She loved watching the Cincinnati Reds. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are, her beloved husband of 67 years, Harold Ray Corley; her daughter, DeWanna Corley Tarver, and her husband, Phillip; and her son, DeWayne Corley; her grandchildren, Jessica Renee Corley, Jeremy DeWayne Corley, Philip Corey Tarver and his wife, Lori, and Eric DeWayne Tarver and his wife, Katie; her great grandchildren, Aubrey Renee Baglio, Miles Vincent Tarver, Millie Kate Tarver, Graham Harrison Tarver, and Ezra James Tarver; and her brothers, Darrel Glen Thaxton and Fletcher Calvin Thaxton. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in The Church of the Nazarene, 3940 Holly Hill Rd. Pastor John Hoffpauir will officiate under the directions of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, at the home of Phillip and DeWanna Tarver, 4428 Ihles Rd.

Mrs. Nelda will be laid to rest in the Belah Cemetery, Trout, Louisiana at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 27, 2025, under the directions of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.
