Milam Ray Lowe, age 90, a native of and longtime resident of Calvin, Louisiana peacefully passed away in the presence of family on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 after a short battle of cancer. He was born to parents Hershel Robert Lowe and Ruth Carpenter Lowe in Calvin, LA on July 22, 1934. Milam was a graduate of Calvin High School. Upon graduating he enrolled in Northwestern State College. He left college and joined the United States Navy to serve his country and to see the world! He was first stationed in San Diego, California aboard the USS Karin and then upon re-enlisting he served on the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Intrepid. After returning to Calvin, he worked at several jobs before taking over the family business, Lowe's Grocery. It was during this time that he met Sue Jones, his wonderful wife of 53 years. Together they had a son, James Milam (Bo) and a daughter, Susan Rae. Together they built a lovely family and life!

Milam was a lifelong member of Calvin Baptist Church. He truly enjoyed the brotherhood of his Senior Men's Sunday School Class taught by Jerry Anderson.

Milam had great interest in the outdoors! He enjoyed many years hunting squirrels and ducks. His favorite relaxation was walking his trails in the piney woods.  He had a keen ear of the sounds of nature, and he was known for imitating them accurately.  Milam will be remembered best for his love for family, friends and all people whom his path crossed.  He delighted in his years as a greeter at Walmart, where he exchanged smiles, greeting and joyfully passed out stickers to the younger ones! He was an honest and gregarious man who exuded much laughter, joy, and words of encouragement! He was a natural storyteller as he shared many life experiences forever leaving an impact on our hearts! Milam was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, his daughter, Susan Stiles and his parents, Hershel and Ruth Lowe and sister, Martha Lowe Killian.  He is survived by his son, James (Donna) and son in law, David Stiles and 6 grandchildren, and two sisters, Mary Lowe Wood and Melinda Lowe Garrett.  He has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews.
