Melinda Ruth Lowe Garrett peacefully passed in the presence of her family on
Tuesday, April 23, 2025. She has gained a new residence with her Heavenly Father forever.

Melinda was born June 26, 1944 in Winnfield, Louisiana and was a graduate of Calvin High School where she gained recognition as a three time All-state basketball player. She later earned her BA in education at Northeastern Louisiana currently known as University of Monroe.

She married her high school sweetheart, Dwaine Garrett.  They had two children, daughter, Paige and son, Cole.  Together they created a life of love and adventure for 41 years!

Melinda was a lifelong residence of Calvin, a place she dearly loved. She was an enthusiastic teacher at Calvin High School for the seventh and eighth grade students for twenty-five years. She also was a coach, a memorable one at that!

Melinda was a longstanding and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Calvin. Her belief in Jesus Christ as her Savior enabled her to walk without fear to the end. Her favorite verse was Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (NKJV)

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Ruth Carpenter Lowe,  husband, Dwaine Garrett, and daughter, Paige Garrett LaCroix, her brother, Milam Lowe and sister, Martha Lowe Killian.

Melinda leaves to treasure her memory her son, Cole(Jalenna) and three grandchildren, Jett, River, and Sadie Paige Garrett, her sister Mary Lowe Wood as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces, and nephews, and great – great nieces, and nephews.

Melinda was deeply loved by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church Calvin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2025 with Reverends Billy Verhoef and Lamar Carpenter officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Friends may visit with the family at the church beginning on Saturday, April 26, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until time of services.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Jett Garrett, Mark Daigle, Robbie Griffin, Bo Lowe, Tom Trawick, and Dannon Erskins.

The Garrett family wishes to extend a heartfelt appreciation to Autumn Leaves Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hand-in-Hand Hospice, and longtime sitter, Mary Allen. Your dedication of good care to Melinda contributed greatly to her quality of life. You are difference makers!

In addition, the Garrett Family acknowledges family and friends for the many cherished visits with Melinda while at Autumn Leaves as well as your thoughts and prayers. We are deeply Gratefull!
