Mary Ann McCartney Roberts, age 87, of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May
11, 2021.

Mary was born on February 23, 1934 to Julian "Mack" and Mary Inez Strange McCartney.
Almost six years later, a sister, Julia McCartney Green, came into their home. She was reared on
the Banks of Dugdemona near Maxwell Ferry in lower southeast Winn Parish, except for a brief
time in Pineville in the 1940's. She was educated at Curry and Winnfield schools. In October
1952, she was saved and attended Beulah Baptist Church. Mary attended Northeast State
University (BS) and Northwestern State University (MS), where she studied Home Economics.
She taught Home Living and Science for thirty years in the Winn Parish School System, where
she received the Outstanding Secondary Education Award in 1973. Mary married Thomas
Lavelle Roberts and lived in the Curry Community from 1956 until 2021. Reading, traveling,
and puzzle solving were hobbies she enjoyed. Mary loved God and served Him at Beulah,
Crossroads, and Pleasant Hill Baptist Churches. She became grandmother to Cheryll, Chantry,
and Dustin Riley, who were the joy of her life.

Her motto: To Teach Is To Touch A Life Forever.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Thomas Roberts, parents Julian
and Inez McCartney, sister Julia Green, and brother in law Donnis Green.

She is survived by her grandchildren Cheryll Riley Carlton (Michael), Chantry Riley, and Dustin
Riley (Stephanie), great grandchildren Jacob, Lauren, and Zachary Carlton, Hayden Dobson, and
Sidney Riley, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021 in the Chapel at Southern
Funeral Home with Reverend Dick Enterkin officiating. Interment will follow in the Guin-Cox
Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Chantry Riley, Dustin Riley, Michael Carlton, Bo Hannegan, James Michael
Roberts, and Aubrey Bailey.
