Mary Long Harris, beloved matriarch and lifelong resident of Georgetown, Louisiana, passed peacefully into eternal rest on February 15, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on October 13, 1932, and was the cherished daughter of Lavelle and Edith Long.
Mary was a devout member of Tullos First Baptist Church, where she found solace, community, and unwavering faith throughout her life. She lived by the principles of love, kindness, and compassion, and her devotion to her church family was evident in all aspects of her life. Mary also worked for Southern Heritage Bank for 50 years , where she eventually retired as Vice President at the age of 69. Whether it was her professional life or her church, Mary showed commitment and deep devotion .
Beyond her spiritual life, Mary had a deep passion for Louisiana State University (LSU), the New Orleans Saints, and Elvis Presley. She was a dedicated fan of LSU sports, cheering on her beloved Tigers with unmatched enthusiasm. Whether it was football Saturdays or basketball games, Mary's spirit for her beloved LSU was unwavering, and she reveled in the camaraderie of fellow fans. Sunday afternoons were always devoted to New Orleans Saints football and every car ride was filled with the gospel tunes of Elvis Presley.
Mary's life was defined by her love for her family and her community. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years Huel "Snicker" Harris; one son, Mark Harris; two brothers James Long and Jerry Long; her parents and grandparents.
Mary L. Harris is survived by her two children Angela Audirsch (B.R.) and Matt Harris; one sibling Sara Pepitone; 7 grandchildren, Dustin Hemperley (Erin), Jessica Cadis (Eric), Kayla Fleming (Dustin), Melissa Starks (Edward), Lance Harris, Tyler Pyles, and Courtney Harris. She has also been blessed to be in the lives of her 10 great-grandchildren.She has a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
A funeral service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at Beulah Baptist Church on Sunday, February 18 at 3:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tullos First Baptist Church in memory of Mary L. Harris. Friends may visit with the family at the church prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Mike Long, Jeff Horne, Dustin Hemperley, Lance Harris, Tyler Pyles, Jack Barrett, Henry Maxwell and Richard Banes.
The family of Mrs. Harris would like to thank the staff at Autumn Leaves for the care and love given to our mother during her stay at Autumn Leaves.
