Martha Carolyn
Johnson
Jun 14, 1947 — Apr 3, 2024
Goldonna
With deep sadness yet cherished memories, we announce the passing of Martha Carolyn Fields Johnson, affectionately known as "Mama and Granny" by her beloved children and grandchildren. Martha departed her cherished family on April 3, 2024, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Martha graced this world on June 14, 1947, in Kermit, Texas, born to the loving embrace of Exa Collins Fields and Edwin Ezekiel Fields. She dedicated her life to nurturing her sons, Richard "Bo" Johnson (wife Sheri) and Barry Wayne Johnson (wife Angie), alongside her devoted husband, Richard Elmer Johnson.
In the simplicity of life, Martha found her greatest joys-tending to her flower garden, expressing herself through painting, and extending kindness to countless animals in need. She was a dedicated founding member of Christian Fellowship Church, where she served as a faithful servant of God, always prioritizing the needs of others above her own. Martha possessed a special affinity for children, delighting in their company and leaving an indelible mark of kindness and love on everyone she encountered.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Exa Fields, her cherished husband of 50 years, Richard Elmer, and her sister, Mander Kirkham (Joe). She also joins in eternal rest her father-in-law, Richard Lee Johnson; mother-in-law, Mary Irene Shaw Johnson; sister-in-laws, Pauline Johnson Anderson and Donna Ball Johnson; brothers-in-law, Edward Alon Johnson, Sr. and Robert Lee Johnson; as well as her nephew, Scott Allen Garner, and niece, Remona Lynn Foreman Pedder.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bo and Barry Johnson; grandchildren, Lee Johnson (Kacey) and Lucas Johnson; great-grandchildren, Reece and Rilynn Johnson; sisters, Carlyss Jones and Mary Jacobs; brothers, Thomas Fields and Edwin "Sonny" Fields. Martha's memory also lives on through Betty Jean Johnson Thibodeaux (Lee Jay), David Joe Johnson (Donna), Juanita Johnson Jackson (Jerry), and Annie Johnson Jones (Bud).
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and again on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of services at Christian Fellowship Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Christian Fellowship Church, with Rev. Bo Johnson, Rev. Coady Thompson, and Rev. Timothy Wilson officiating.
Martha will be laid to rest in Zion Hill Cemetery, Tannehill, under the compassionate care of Southern Funeral Home.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Lucas Johnson, Barry Johnson, Lee Johnson, Timothy Wilson, Joey Rozell, and William Kinney.
