Leonard Ray Rhymes, a beloved resident of Epps, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the age of 85.

Leonard was born on Sunday, May 22, 1938, in Winnfield, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Willie Beatrice Carter Rhymes, his father, Cecil H. Rhymes, and his siblings, Charlotte Rhymes, Myrl Rhymes, Bobby Rhymes, and James Edward Rhymes. He also mourned the loss of his special aunt and uncle, Joe and Ella Quarles, and his dear friend, Leon Boykin.

A dedicated scholar, Leonard graduated from Winnfield High School and pursued his passion for vocational agriculture at Louisiana State University. He furthered his education at Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, where he earned a Master's +30 in education. For over 30 years, Leonard taught vocational agriculture, science, and social studies at the high school level, positively influencing the lives of countless students.

On August 26, 1960, Leonard united in marriage with the love of his life, Junita Yvonne Willis Rhymes. Their unwavering faith as Southern Baptists was an integral part of their lives.

Leonard's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife, Junita Yvonne Willis Rhymes, his sons, Leonard Ray Rhymes, Jr. (Diane), and Laney Dale Rhymes, as well as his beloved grandchildren, James Randal Rhymes (Amanda), Jacob Charles Rhymes, Payton Lane Rhymes (Lauren), Michelle Lee Swiontek (Brett), and Faith Alyse Rhymes. Additionally, he leaves behind a great grandson, Joshua Steven Rhymes, who brought immense joy to his life.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Southern Funeral Home. The visitation will take place from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Garden of Memories, with Reverend Jay Morgan and Reverend Byron Boykin officiating.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are James Randal Rhymes, Jacob Rhymes, Terry McKnight, T. L. Rhymes, Gene Rhymes, and Jerry Crooks.
