Mr. Lee Edwin "Ed" Carter, 83, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on March 15,1940. Ed graduated from Winnfield High School, Winnfield, Louisiana, in 1958. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith Marilyn Shivers on August 25,1961. They were happily married for 44 years. Ed's career in the oil industry spanned 61 years where he served as a petroleum engineer for Continental Oil Company,
BDK Oil Company, Terra Resources and Pacific Resources, after which he became a consultant for various companies.

Ed was a devoted father of three children, James Kyle, Paul Keith and Lynley Kay (Townsend). He spent a great deal of time in the outdoors, hunting and fishing, with bird hunting being his true passion. He was an exceptional shot, and in fact he always had the most birds and the most shells left in his bag at the end of the day. Later in life, he delighted in hunting with his children, grandchildren and his dear friend, Joe Gonzales.

Ed was a master at barbeque ("Carter-Que") who also loved cornbread, purple hull peas, peaches and banana puddin'.

A true southern gentleman, Ed was a man who always greeted people with a smile, handshake, or, more often as not, a hug. He put God first in his life, and he also cherished his family, his many friends and his country throughout his lifetime. He blessed the lives of all who knew him, leaving large footprints to follow.

In 2005, Marilyn passed away following a long struggle with cancer. Ed reconnected with his high school friend, Brenda McManus, and he and Brenda were married December 13, 2008. Ed cherished Brenda. His love and devotion was an example to all who knew them. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Fredericksburg, Branson and their beloved family and high school reunions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland Lee Carter and Maurice Carter Annesley, and Marilyn Carter.

He is survived by his children, James Kyle Carter and wife, Jeannie Carter, Paul Keith Carter and wife, Julie Carter and daughter Lynley Kay Townsend, and husband, Michael Townsend; grandchildren Kaitlyn Shea Minson and husband, Joshua Minson, Ryan Keith Carter, Keegan Matthew Carter, Braeden Lee Carter and wife, Brittany Carter, Lauren Mikayla Townsend and Logan Michael Townsend; step-grandchildren, Marnae Nicole Fults and husband, Jordan Fults, Michael Allen Stroud and wife, Sydney Vanberg, Scott Gage Stroud; step-great grandchildren Oren Scott Stroud, Eisley Marie Stroud and Clementine Grace Stroud.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 2, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, Louisiana. (202 East Lafayette Street Winnfield, Louisiana 71483)
