With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Kim Shows McFarland, who left this world on July 8, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on September 26, 1958, in Winnfield, Louisiana, Kim was known for her smile, wit, laughter, and just being fun to be around. Renowned for her dedication to education as a beloved teacher for the Winn Parish School Board, she profoundly influenced the lives of countless students, instilling in them a love for learning and the courage to achieve their dreams as their teacher and librarian for 31 years. Kim also served as a Disk Jockey at KVCL radio and was a member of East Winnfield Baptist Church.
Kim married the love of her life, Sam McFarland, November 19, 1994. Four and a half years of marriage tragically cut short with his passing on May 24, 1999. Kim was also preceded in death by: her parents, Walton Deloy Shows and Gloria Jean Desadier Shows, her second mom and dad - Aunt Bet and Uncle Henry Shows, and her fur babies - Abby, Jade, Abby Girl, and JuJu.
Kim is survived by her devoted family, including her brother, Mike Shows (Liz); her sister, Martha Finch (Dave); her brother, Jeff Shows (Mary); and her special cousin, Debbie Shows. She leaves behind a legacy that extends to her cherished nieces and nephews: Melissa Sealy (Mike) and great nephews Evan & Luke; Jared Shows (Rebecca) and great nephew and nieces Grayson, Molly, and Jayce; Christina Bounds (Rick) and great nephew Brenden; Josh Shows and great nephew Korbin; Kyle Watson (Valarie); Paighton Rhodes (Austin) and great nieces and nephew Caroline, Austin, Paul, Ashton, and Charlotte; Erin Fleming (Keith) and great nieces and nephews Kayra, Piper, and Ollie; Noah Shows; Special Fur Baby, "Widdle Widdle"-Nugget. Each of them will carry forward the lessons of kindness, resilience, and determination that Kim embodied.
In honoring her memory, a visitation is scheduled for July 10, 2026, at Southern Funeral Home beginning at 5:00 PM, allowing family, friends, and loved ones to gather in reflection and remembrance. The heartfelt funeral service will follow on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM, also at Southern Funeral Home, where we will gather together to celebrate Kim's remarkable life and the indelible mark she left on all of us.
A graveside service will take place that same day about 12:30 PM at Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
Serving the family as pallbearers wil be Jared Shows, Josh Shows, Kyle Watson, Rick Bounds, Austin Rhodes, and Noah Shows.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Natchitoches Regional MC ICU, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, and Dr. Matta, Dr. Aktar, Kayla Oliff, and all the staff at NRMC Cancer Center, as well as Dr. Castle and NRMC Urology, NRMC Day Surgery and Dr. Jordan.
