Karen Kay Kendrick Mitchell was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on December 31, 2023, at age 60.

Kay was born March 5, 1963, in New Orleans but Georgetown was her home. She was the oldest of five and to her that meant she was responsible for them. Her brothers will tell you she was just like a momma hen tending to them. She'd pile them in the station wagon making sure everyone got to school. She was very active at GHS but the most memorable for her family was seeing her on stage dancing to "Working at the car wash." Jeff was her protector, Jody was always there to make her laugh, and Kelly was her stylist. She loved growing up surrounded by her Bruce cousins and always talked about how tight they were.

She cherished her family but nothing compared to the love she felt when her girls came along. They were everything to her. She had a rocking/back scratching combo that could put them to sleep, soothe a bobo, or heal a broken heart. She enjoyed dressing them in matching outfits, preferably polka dots or sailor suits. They never had to wonder if she would attend a school program or ball game. She was going to be there no matter what. She coached many years of teeball and softball for both of her girls. In these years she was also Aunt Kay to many little boys and she loved her nephews like they were her own.

When the girls were little a new love came into Kay's life. His name was Booger and he fell head over heels for her. They were best friends. One of their favorite things to do was ride the backroads and listen to music. She preferred 90s country but would occasionally give in and let him play the oldies. The only difficulties she ever had in their marriage was figuring out how to haul off the trash without him bringing it back.

Kay had a passion for sports and could often be found at the softball field with the smell of ammonia water wafting from her neck. She played on several teams over the years but the Charlie's Angels crew was like a second family. She loved to cut up with them between games and would often laugh until she cried. Sometimes she put down her glove long enough for a girls trip to the Natchez boat or line dance to Achy breaky heart at Fool's Gold. She spent many nights with her friends playing booray and when she had cards in her hand she could play until the sun came up. If she slowed down long enough to watch tv she couldn't pass up Wheel of Fortune or anything with Patrick Swayze.

Kay's outfit of choice was a patriotic t shirt and shorts with cute earrings accessorized with a diet coke and cigarette case. She'd change things up sometimes and sport her silky camo shirt or her Saints football jersey.

Her most treasured role over the years was being a grandmother. She was known as Grandma Kay, Mea, and Mawmaw. She loved her grandchildren and was so proud to share stories about them.

Kay was a hard worker and always willing to help. She was the backbone of her family and felt a responsibility to take care of everyone in her life. There will be a Texas size hole in the lives of so many as they try to navigate a world without her.

Go rest high on that mountain, mom your work on earth is done.

And yes, I'll kiss your babies for you.

Kay was preceded in death by her mother Louise Kendrick; granddaughter Kaitlin Mitchell; paternal grandparents Henry and Mattie Kendrick, and maternal grandparents Edgar and Eunice Brazzell Bruce.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Charles "Booger" Mitchell; father Malcolm "Mutt" Kendrick; children, Kagnee Veitch (Jason), Kylee Kent, Colby Mitchell (Carol Lynn), Jason Mitchell (Krista); her grandchildren, Kaigan, Decklyn, Beckham, Cooper, Kambry, Gibson, Greyson, Gunner, Garrett, Casey, Georgie, Logan; siblings Kelly, Jeff, Jody and Jason Kendrick; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family at Georgetown Baptist Church on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Saturday from noon until service time.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Georgetown Baptist Church at 3:00 PM, with Reverend Lamar Carpenter and Reverend Carl Griffith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Georgetown Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Pallbearers are Garrett Mitchell, Logan Mitchell, Brandon Hennigan, Dustin Hennigan, Rusty Kendrick, Dock Kendrick, Josh Kendrick, and Joseph Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers are Colby Mitchell, Jason Mitchell, and Jason Veitch.
