Judith "Judy" Mayes, affectionately known as "Judy, Judy, Judy" by some and "JuJu" by others, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, in Ruston, Louisiana, at the age of 86.

Judy was a woman of deep faith, unwavering love for her family, and a joyful spirit that brightened the lives of those around her. She worked for a time at First Federal in Winnfield before dedicating many years of service as the church secretary at East Winnfield Baptist Church, where she became a beloved friend and faithful servant to her church family.

A devoted Christian, Judy loved the Lord with all her heart and was actively involved in the Grace Sunday School Class at East Winnfield Baptist Church until her move to Jonesboro. She was later a faithful member of Springhill Baptist Church. Her faith guided her life and was evident in the kindness, encouragement, and prayers she shared with others.

Judy treasured her family, even when distance prevented frequent visits. She loved to laugh, enjoyed a good conversation, and never missed an opportunity to share a story or a smile. An avid reader with a sharp mind, she especially enjoyed crossword puzzles, testing her knowledge while watching Jeopardy, and cheering on contestants during Wheel of Fortune. Some of her happiest moments were spent talking on the phone with her lifelong friend, Ella Creel, and her sister-in-law, Daisy. Those conversations were filled with laughter, cherished memories, and heartfelt prayers.

A graduate of Georgetown High School, Judy was a spirited young woman who served as a cheerleader and played on the basketball team. Throughout her life, she carried that same enthusiasm, determination, and love for people that made her such a special presence to all who knew her.

Judy will be remembered for her gentle heart, steadfast faith, quick wit, and the love she shared so freely with family and friends. Her legacy of faith, laughter, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Judy is survived by her son, Charles "Allen" McCartney and wife, Belinda; daughter, Sandy Donaldson and husband, Layne; grandchildren, Allen Michael McCartney (Cory), Cole McCartney (Holly), Cody Donaldson (Sheree), Justin Donaldson (Savannah) and Machaela Morris (Jared); and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Charles L. McCartney; father, Clarence E. Johnson; mother, Maude (Murphy) Johnston; brothers, Cecil J. Johnston and James L. Johnston; and sisters, Arlene Thompson and Nannie Sue Johnston.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Bro. Shane Donaldson will conduct the funeral service which begins at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 26 in the chapel. Burial will follow in the Georgetown Cemetery (LA Hwy 500), under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Stanley McKaskle, Allen Michael McCartney, Cody Donaldson, Hunter Donaldson, Justin Donaldson, Jared Morris and Cole McCartney.
