Juanita "Nita"
Crowder Spurlock
Oct 16, 1922 — Oct 4, 2024
Kingwood
Juanita "Nita" Crowder Spurlock, age 101, of Kingwood, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2024, in Houston, Texas, just twelve days shy of her 102nd birthday. She was born on October 16, 1922, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, to Elree Evans Crowder and Mattie Young Crowder. Nita was preceded in death by her husband, S. Victor Spurlock; her son, Kenneth M. Spurlock; and her two brothers, Gene and Fred Crowder.
A longtime member of Kingwood Methodist Church, Nita was actively involved in the church choir during her younger years, a testament to her love of singing. She also had a passion for cooking and baking, with desserts being her specialty. Her signature pecan pie and peach cobbler will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.
Her family and friends are reminded of the words from Proverbs 31:10-31, a passage that describes the qualities of a virtuous woman: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come... Her children arise and call her blessed." Nita embodied this scripture through her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family.
Nita's memory will be cherished by her daughter, Brenda Arnold, and her husband, Leo, of Conroe, Texas, as well as her grandchildren, Scott Spurlock and his wife, Shari, and Callie O'Donnell and her husband, Ian. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren, Shane Spurlock and Owen O'Donnell, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Bethel Church in Downsville, Louisiana, with Ian O'Donnell officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Nebo Cemetery near Downsville under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Nita's name to the music ministry at Kingwood Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6989, Kingwood, TX 77325, or the Mount Nebo Cemetery Fund, c/o Linda Crane, 586 Jones Rd., Downsville, LA 71234.
