The family of Joe and Sherry Blake would like to announce that on Saturday, June 13 we will be having a memorial service at Southern- Edmond's Funeral Home to share our love and respect for them prior to their final burial at Garden of Memories. The memorial service will begin at 11:00am and the family will receive guests starting at 10:30am.
Joe and Sherry were both born and raised in Jonesboro, Louisiana and both were members of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School. Joe was in the class of 1959 and Sherry was in the class of 1963. They were married in Jonesboro on September 14, 1963. Joe went on to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964 from Louisiana Tech University and his career path took them to New Orleans where he worked for Louisiana Gas Service Company, and then to Houston, Texas where they raised their family.
Joe worked for Sinclair Petrochemical, which then became The Atlantic Richfield Corporation (ARCO Chemical), which transitioned to Lyondell Petrochemical, which then became Equistar/LyondellBasell. He worked at the same petrochemical facility in Channelview, Texas from 1966-1997. He retired from LyondellBasell and worked for several years at Dow Chemical in Deer Park, Texas before retiring completely.
Sherry was an amazing mother to Laura (1968) and Chris (1975) and worked tirelessly for any activity in which her children were involved. They were members of Uvalde Baptist Church in the North Channel area of Houston. In 2017, Joe and Sherry decided to make a move to the Texas Hill Country and lived out the remainder of their lives in Johnson City, Texas.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, I.C. "Clint" and Louise Blake, and his siblings Dan Blake, Julia Blake Essmeier and John C. Blake. He was survived by his brother-in-law Don Essmeier (deceased October 16, 2021) and his sister-in-law Sandy Blake.
Sherry was predeceased by her parents, Lamoine and Edith McConathy and her brother Mack McConathy. She was survived by her sister-in-law Sandy Blake.
Joe and Sherry leave behind a daughter, Laura Blake Adair, along with her husband Allen, of Henly, Texas. They leave behind a son, Christopher Blake, along with his wife, Christin, of Flint, Texas. They are survived by four wonderful grandchildren, Hunter Blake (Hannah), Aidan Adair, Olivia Adair and Mason Blake. They also became great-grandparents to Tatum Blake on February 4, 2026!
Throughout their lives they held on to their North Louisiana upbringing with pride and the town of Jonesboro shaped their views and their values. We are honored to be able to bring them back to their home town for their final resting place.
