Jonathan Jackson Strahan, Jr., affectionately known as "Jack" passed away peacefully with his family near his side on Monday, May 27, 2024. Jack was born to the union of Jonathan Jackson Strahan, Sr. and Edith Woodworth Strahan on June 29, 1934 in Stuttgart, Arkansas.

Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force immediately out of high school where he taught aviation classes while earning his degree in psychology. He served in the Korean War and spent time in Germany, England, Morocco, Bangkok, Iran and Iraq as well as countless other countries. He retired from the Air Force with the distinct title of Senior Master Sergeant Jonathan Jackson Strahan, Jr. He then went to work as a psychologist for Pinecrest State School where he retired from the state of Louisiana. Lastly, he went to work for the Federal Government in the Social Security Department where he stayed until his third retirement.

Jack was strong in his belief of God and recently told his family that the only way he was going to get better was at his passing when he would then receive a new body.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jonathan Jackson Strahan, Sr. and Edith Woodworth Strahan.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are his loving wife Melba Shumake Strahan; step-daughter, Rose Smith; sons Jeff Strahan, Jonathan Strahan, III;  daughters, Victoria Marmon, Rachal Strahan, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May, 29, 2024 at Sardis Baptist Church of Atlanta, Louisiana from 11:30AM until 12:30PM. Graveside services will be held in the church cemetery at 12:30PM with Rev. Tommy Sanson officiating.

Those honored to serve the family as pallbearers are Anthony Smith, II, Anthony Smith, III, Alexander Smith, Andrew Smith, Johnny Shumake, and Robert Shumake. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Finn, Logan Yoist, and Brady Finn.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, Louisiana.
