Mr. John William Maloy, age 53 of Shreveport, formerly of Winnfield, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

He was born August 27, 1970 in Alexandria, LA to the parents of Hubert Lynn Maloy and Margaret Bailey Maloy. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Lynn Maloy; paternal grandparents, Memory "Jack" French Sr. and Hazel Maloy French; maternal grandparents, John "Sonny" Bailey and Zella "Dollie" Bailey and uncles, Marion "Bill" Bailey and Memory French, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Margaret Bailey Maloy; brothers, Michael Lynn Maloy (Samantha) and Timothy Brandon Maloy (Heather); two nieces, Michaela Kathlynn Maloy and Mykenzie Lynn Maloy; one nephew, Timothy Bryce Maloy; aunt and uncles, Kenneth Maloy (Martha), John Mark Bailey (Madge) and Debbie French; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

John was a native of Winnfield. He graduated from Winnfield Senior High School in 1988 and attended Northwestern State University where he graduated in English and History in 1991.

John then attended LSU Paul M. Hebert School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctorate degree. John worked for the Social Security Administration; Provosty, Sadler, deLaunay, Fiorenza and Sobel Law Firm; served as Assistant DA for Winn Parish and completed his career as Assistant Vice Chancellor at LSU Biomedical Research Department in Shreveport.

John loved to read and play the piano and was an avid LSU sports fan.  He served as interim pianist at Winnfield and Shreveport area churches for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 1, 2024 at South Winnfield Baptist Church with Reverends Craig James, Jack Miller, Norris Curry and Kevin Womack officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery near Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6:30pm with Reverend Louis Sklar officiating. Visitation will resume on Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Those honored to serve the family as pallbearers are Scott Shelton, Chris Kevil, Kevin Howell, Adam Mercer, Shelby Loe, and Bryce Maloy. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Bailey, Jeff Mercer and Richie Mercer.
