Mrs. Joan Cummings Reeves, age 80 of Quitman, Louisiana passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023.

Born Sunday, February 14, 1943 in Hodge, Louisiana, she was a 1961 graduate of Jonesboro-Hodge High School. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education from Northwestern State University. Mrs. Reeves taught in Winn Parish schools, including Calvin and Winnfield prior to her retirement as librarian at WSHS, where she was also sponsor of the Toy Tigers.

Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Cummings and Audra Vaughan Prestridge; son, Jay Huckaby; siblings, Michael Cummings and Charlene Conville.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Don Reeves; son, David Huckaby; daughter-in-law, Beckie Huckaby; half-brother, Jim Trichel; step-children, Darell Reeves and Darlene Martin (Earl); grandchildren, Cody (Taylor), Megan (Jay Russell), Rachel, John David and Wayne Curtis; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at North Hodge Assembly of God  with Rev. Geary Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories in Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday at Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again  at the church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be John David Huckaby, Chad Taylor, Wayne Curtis Huckaby, Cody Stroud, Earl Martin, Todd Wold and Jay Russell Miller.
