Jewel Maurine (Shirley) Johns, age 86 of Quitman, ascended to her Heavenly home on Sunday, March 16, 2025.  She was born on Wednesday, November 23, 1938 in Winnfield, Louisiana.  Jewel is retired from Haynes International.  She was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.  She loved her church family, attending Sunday school classes, and being involved with church activities.  Jewel enjoyed cooking for her family, working in her yard and loving on her kitty, Flossy.  She loved her grandchildren and was proud to be their Nana.

Those left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Sheryl Durrett and Tommy; sons, Carleton Johns and Bonita, Greg Johns and Micki; grandchildren, Megan Cornell and Matt, Lauren Charrier and Brandon, Matt Johns and Haley, Brooke Johns, Devon Johns, Jackson Johns; great grandchildren, Tinsley and Bailey Charrier, Elliot Johns; step grandchildren, Graydon, Mason, and Quinn Cornell; sister, Linda McCarty and WC; close friend, Dewayne Richards; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ivy Johns "Junior"; parents, Alon and Myrtis (Jordan) Shirley; brother, A.L. Shirley; sisters, Barbara Shelton and David, Gail Stewart and Earl.

A graveside service is set for Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Zion Hill Cemetery in Tannehill, Louisiana near Winnfield with Dr. Wilton Wall officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery directed by Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Sweetwater Baptist Church and St. Jude Children's Hospital in her honor.
