Jessie Dean Dubois Graves, age 86, of Verda, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in Winnfield, Louisiana. She was born on January 5, 1938, in Aloha, Louisiana, to Jesse James and Clarice Fredieu Dubois.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Jessie Dean was the heart of her family, always putting their happiness and well-being first. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and delight.
Jessie Dean had a love for basketball, whether playing in her younger years, watching games at the gym, or cheering from her favorite chair at home. She also found joy in classic Westerns and timeless music, often found watching old films and listening to channels that played the songs of her era.
A woman of unwavering faith, Jessie Dean was a devout member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She cherished her church family and the Verda community, always giving of herself with kindness, grace, and generosity.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse James and Clarice Fredieu Dubois; her beloved husband, Jimmy Graves; her son, Dalton Keith Graves; her daughter-in-law, Vanessa Graves and sisters Myra "Sissy" Brumley and Nellie Brumley.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James "Dirk" Graves (Cindy) of Atlanta, Louisiana, and Jason Patrick Graves; her sister Molly Evelyn Martin; her grandchildren, Crissey Smith (Trenton), Derek Graves (Jenna), Laryn Graves, and Logan Graves; her great-grandchildren, Charity, Sadey, Ryan, Natalie, Tucker, and D.J.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Pallbearers honoring Jessie Dean will be Kason Lashley, Mason Deen, Derrien O'Conn, Shannon Dubois, Robert Halafihi, and Kenny Reeves. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, LeRoy Martin, Virgil Brumley, Jr., and Jacky Brumley.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jessie Dean's life on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM, officiated by Fr. John Brocato. Interment will follow in French Cemetery.
