Mr. Jerry Dale Tolbert, age 79, of Sikes, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023, at his residence in Sikes. Born on Friday, June 30, 1944, in Winnfield, Louisiana, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Earnest and Thelma Bustin Tolbert. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley James Tolbert.

Jerry dedicated a significant portion of his working life to the Illinois Central Railroad, where he served with dedication until his well-earned retirement. In the subsequent years, he transitioned into the role of a contract log cutter, showcasing his industrious spirit and work ethic.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Jerry found solace and joy in the natural world. Whether he was out in the woods as an avid deer and hog hunter or engaged in various sportsman activities, he embraced the beauty of the outdoors. His commitment extended beyond the wilderness, as he was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his darling wife Shirley Ann James Tolbert; his parents, Earnest "Boat" and Thelma Bustin Tolbert.

Jerry is survived by his daughters, Robin Whisonant (Kevin) of Winnfield, LA, and Becky Herring, both of whom cherish the memories of their father's love and guidance; grandchildren, Brooklyn Zimmerman, Katlyn Scott (Brandon), Megan Zimmerman Potts (Kyle), Caroline Herring Adams (Christian), Amy Whisonant Yerby (Christopher), and Kyle Whisonant (Caitlin); great grandchildren, Mallory, Grayslyn, Mason, Kaydence, Bentlee, Jackson, Pierson, Kyleigh, Cutter, Kreed, Kambry, Karter, and Kooper.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at  Southern Funeral Home, 202 E. Lafayette St., Winnfield, Louisiana, on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral service honoring Jerry's life will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday at Southern Funeral Home, with the Reverend Lamar Carpenter, Rev. Chuck LaCroix, Rev. Mark Green, and Rev. Mike Green officiating. Following the service, Jerry will be laid to rest in the serene grounds of Friendship Cemetery in Sikes, LA.

Those honored to serve the family as pallbearers are Mark Green, Mason Green, Adam Carpenter, Dylan Womack, Russell Hatten, and Jay Hearne. Honorary Pallbearers are Billy "Butch" Bustin, Joey Pinder, John Ortego, Mike Hearne, and Eugene Gilbert.
