James Austin Jordan, age 92, of Oil City, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Born in Winnfield, Louisiana, on October 2, 1932, he was the son of Austin H. Jordan and Willie May Taylor Jordan. A proud patriot, Mr. Jordan faithfully served his country in the United States Navy for six years during the Korean Conflict, enlisting on March 20, 1950, and receiving an honorable discharge on February 19, 1957.

A dedicated member of the Masonic Fraternity for 63 years, he served three times as Worshipful Master of Vivian Lodge No. 314 F&AM and was a Past Patron of Vesper Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. His faith was central to his life, and he was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Winnfield.

An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Jordan found great joy in hunting, fishing, and traveling. However, his greatest happiness came from time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Porter Jordan; his brother, Charles W. Jordan; his sister, LaMaye Alford; and his granddaughter, Melissa Moore.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Becky McLaurin (Mike) and Jan Moore (Chester); his son, Mark Austin Jordan (Janie); grandchildren Micheal, Matt, Teri, Jennifer, James, Dana, and Holly; and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his devoted companion, his beloved fur baby, Nubbin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, with Reverend Mike McLaurin officiating. Interment will follow in Jordan Hill Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy and Masonic Funeral Rites.

Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Honoring Mr. Jordan as pallbearers will be Glen Alford, Bodine Alford, Mark Jordan, Chester Moore, James Moore, and Micheal McLaurin. Honorary pallbearers will be Davison Doughtry, Kyle Moore, Lillian Moore, and all of his Masonic brethren.

In remembrance of a life well lived and a legacy of love, service, and devotion, Mr. Jordan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
