Mr. James Ray Givens, age 88 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023.

Born Wednesday, November 7, 1934 in Atlanta, Louisiana, he was retired from the US Air Force with twenty-plus years of service. He also worked with the US Postal Service for the remainder of his career and was an avid gardener.

Mr. Givens was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Raymond Givens and Violet LeBaron Givens; twin sister, Virginia Evans.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Alan Givens and daughter-in-law, Linda Couch; life partner, Barbara Lavesphere; brothers, Troy Givens, Donald Givens and Clyce Lingenfelter; grandchildren, Colin Ray Givens and Megan Jane Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Mason Jenkins, Leah Jenkins, Eliyanah Jenkins and grandson-in-law, Mackie Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Roland Hebert officiating. Interment will follow in Mars Hill Cemetery in Verda followed by a celebration of life social to be held at The United Pentecostal Church of Montgomery, 2123 Hwy. 71, Montgomery, LA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Mackie Jenkins, Colin Givens, Chris Givens, Rusty Givens and Steven McCain.
