Mrs. Ida Mae Hemphill, age 83, of Winnfield, LA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in Alexandria, LA. She was born on May 30, 1940, in Dodson, LA, to the late Riley Young and Daisy Roberts Young.
Ida was a longtime member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. She found joy and solace in her faith, her church, and in the warmth of her family and friends. She exuded love and warmth, making her home a haven for all who entered. Known for her culinary skills, Ida took joy in cooking for her loved ones. She also had a passion for collecting dolls, each one a cherished memento of her life's journey. Her life was a testament to kindness, compassion, and unwavering devotion to everyone she loved.
Ida was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ples Hemphill, granddaughter Kayla Bevill, her parents, and siblings Clifford Young, Marjorie Gates, Mattie Jordan, and Virginia Busby.
She is survived by her children: Steven Broadway (Linda), Mark Broadway, Debbie Terral, Ronnie Hemphill (Kim), Karen Bevill (Bo), Kelly Lasyone (Leonard), and Greg Hemphill (Eileen). Ida leaves behind a legacy of love in her 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her deeply.
The public visitation will be held at Welcome Home Baptist Church on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, also at Welcome Home Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Alan Boyett. Interment will take place at Welcome Home Cemetery.
