On Saturday, April 20, 2024, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband, Herman Arthur Castete, age 81, of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away at his home. Herman was a graduate of Louisiana State University where he was awarded his Juris Doctorate degree in 1973. He was raised in St. Landry, Louisiana and Lake Charles, Louisiana before moving and making his home in North Louisiana after graduation from LSU. He was a 4 th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and attended Our Lady of Lourde's Catholic Church. During his lifetime he was a supporter of rodeo in all different capacities, including being the best alley-man around for his grandchildren. He was a sought-after recruit at Lake Charles High School and due to his prowess on the football field he was signed to play football at LSU after high school. He was loved greatly by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter as well as a large number of friends and additional family.

Herman was an amazing man who loved and lived life on his terms and was never one to "go with the flow". At first, Herman may have seemed to be a little on the gruff side, but in reality, he had a big heart and did for others without requiring recognition. He knew how to make waves and would confront them head on each and every time. He was always ready to head out to the next adventure and he always said when you left home with him, you better be prepared for anything because you never knew where you might end up or what you may be doing. With his passing, he leaves big shoes for someone to fill.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Cummings Castete, his children: Kelly Castete, Pamela Straub and her husband Michael, Paula Morris, Katie Rains and her husband Seth, Cody Johns, Jason Johns and Ami Brunson; his grandchildren: Hannah Morris, Joshua Straub, Spencer Brunson, Parker Johns, Zachary Morris, Matthew Straub, Addison Rains, and Luke Rains; and his great-granddaughter: Amelia Talbot; his
brother: Albert Castete and his nephew Christopher Castete.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Pauline (Fontenot) Castete and two grandchildren: Brody Johns and Joei Johns.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Southern Funeral Home, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Southern Funeral Home.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April, 24, 2024 at St. Theresa's Catholic Chapel in St. Landry.  Interment will follow in St. Theresa's Catholic Chapel Cemetery, in Saint Landry, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Mr. Castete's grandsons will serve the family as pallbearers.
