Fredrick Leon Lawrence was born in Winnfield, Louisiana on August 27, 1955 and departed mortality on January 5, 2025 in Jamul, California. He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Branch Lawrence, father, Freddie Lee Lawrence, step-father, Bobby J. Buckelew, and grandparents, Milford Filmore Lawrence and Edna Stevens Lawrence, and Boston Eugene Autrey and Love Z. Engles Autrey.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his life partner, Theresa A. Castrejon; children, Gabriel L. Lawrence (Katie), Lindsey G. Bare (Brandon), and Nathaniel N. Lawrence (Ariadna); mother, Alice Faye Buckelew; siblings, Stephen A. Lawrence (Kim), Laura Weatherford (Bill), and Rachael Lawrence Lewis; step-sister Sharon French (James), and Randy Buckelew (Bonnie); grandchildren Kali Lawrence, Alana Lawrence,
Anniston Lawrence, Ezra Lawrence, Tristan Lawrenca, Blakelee Bare, Brixton Bare, Lacey Bare, Logan Bare, McKinley Bare, Briel Lawrence and Malakai Lawrence; as well as a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends who were close to his heart (Blaze, Ryan, Erik, Dorn, Rita).

Fred was multi-faceted, educated not only in the schools of Winn Parish, academic halls, and life, but in the woods as well - he was an avid and extremely successful hunter, fisher, and trapper and never missed an opportunity to immerse himself in nature. He was a natural teacher and loved to impart his knowledge, wisdom, and experience to others.

His innate musical ability and interest spanned his entire lifetime, beginning with school bands and expanding to a local band in high school that played in the Winn Parish area. Later he developed a love for the simplicity and beauty of bluegrass music and harmonies and became an accomplished banjo picker, participating on stage in many venues over the years.

Another testament of his love for the South, and especially Louisiana, was the joy he received from cooking and entertaining while educating others about his home state. His culinary specialties stretched from any wild game, to grilled and smoked meats and fish, to a pan of perfect yeast dinner rolls. He could throw down a mean pot of jambalaya or gumbo. Friends never went hungry.

Having bred working dogs for hunting, Fred later developed an interest in French bulldogs and showmanship. This interest culminated in the kennel he named "Sugarbulls," which produced pets and show dogs with excellent temperament, health, conformity, and bloodlines.

After having one career path blocked by injury, he chose to pursue a career in corrections. He progressed from the detention center in Winn Parish to Arizona, California, Kansas, and eventually California again, where he retired as warden of the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego.

Although Fred was a man of many accomplishments during his life, he felt the most accomplishment and pride when it came to his children and his deep love for them and his family.
