DeWanna Ann Dyson McLaren
January 13, 1943 - July 11, 2024
DeWanna Ann Dyson McLaren, age 81, of Winnfield, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Born on January 13, 1943, in Hargis, Louisiana, DeWanna was a devoted member of the South Winnfield Baptist Church. She actively participated in the Women's Missionary Union and her Sunday School class.
Throughout her career, DeWanna worked at the Vassarette Clothing Factory in Winnfield, served as a secretary in the Law Office of James Womack, and later retired from CCA. In her leisure time, she found joy in gardening, quilting, fishing, and canning. She especially cherished her breakfast gatherings with the Ladies Garage Selling Club and treasured the moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
DeWanna was the beloved daughter of the late Theron Dyson and the late Ruth Reeves Stanfield. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Wayne Dyson, and a special friend, Clyde Swanson.
She leaves behind a loving family: her sister, Theda Jean Torres and husband Frank of Mascoutah, IL; her brother, Stan Stanfield of Gonzales, LA; her children, Laurie LaFollette and husband Stacey of Wheeling, LA, John McLaren of Wheeling, LA, and Kim Harlan and husband Randy of Winnfield, LA. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Hannah and Dawson Lundy of Winnfield, Kaleb LaFollette and Lessie Neal of Wheeling, and Kallie and Travis Williams of Winnfield, LA; and her great-grandchildren, Korbin Shows and Winston Williams. DeWanna is also survived by a host of nephews and their spouses.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mars Hill Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Jack Miller. Friends may visit with the family at Mars Hill Baptist Church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kaleb LaFollette, Travis Williams, Dawson Lundy, Joe McLaren, Frank McLaren, and Jack McLaren. Honorary pallbearers will be Korbin Shows and Winston Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mars Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Frank McLaren at 163 New Mars Hill Rd., Atlanta, LA 71404., or Operation Christmas Child or Thankful Baskets at South Winnfield Baptist Church at 646 Country Club Rd., Winnfield, LA 71483.
