Betty Flowers Russell peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 30, 2022. She was 72 years young. Betty was born August 13, 1949, to the union of Aubrey and Wanda Gibson Flowers in Brookhaven, MS. She was married to James Gibson, Russell, III on June 26, 1971, and they recently celebrated their 51st Anniversary. Betty was a 1967 graduate of Opelousas High School and went on to attend Northwestern State University, earning her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She also earned a Masters of Education and +30 in education. She taught, administrated and tutored in the Winn Parish School System for 35 years and touched the lives of thousands of children over those years. Betty was passionate about education and teaching. She never met a child whose name she did not know and those children always remembered her name as well. She was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority teachers' organization for many years. Betty was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wanda and Aubrey Flowers and her brother, Jimmy Flowers. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 51 years, James G. "Rusty" Russell, III and sons and grandchildren Thomas G. Russell (Candice), Gibson and Holt Russell and Benton H. Russell and Presley Gilcrease. Also cherishing her memory are her sister, Sarah Boling; sisters-in-law, Ellen Russell and Pat Flowers; niece and nephews Mary Ranger, Bobby Boling, Fred Boling, Jim Scott, Ross Flowers, Nick Flowers and Justin Flowers. Betty had a host of great nieces and nephews as well, Emily Ranger, Elizabeth Ranger, Ella Scott, Michelle Boling, Lily Flowers, Emilia Flowers, Aubrey Flowers, William Ranger, Harris Ranger, Matthew Boling William Scott and Henry Scott and Finn Flowers.

The family will recieve friends on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Southern Funeral Home from 5:00PM until &7:00PM and again on Sunday from 2:00PM untill service time.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield at 3:00PM with Rev. Katie Black officiating. Interment will follow in Winnfield Citry Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers include Marty Harrel, Tommy Harrel, Dickie Heard, Matthew Walton, Jimmy Walker, Bo Files, Rick Hanna and Wayne Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church in Winnfield, LA.
