Betty Jean Mercer

Mrs. Betty Jean Mercer, a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and veteran, passed away on March 22, 2025, at Garden Park Nursing Home in Shreveport, Louisiana. A native of Winnfield and longtime resident of Shreveport, she lived a life marked by devotion to her faith, her family, and her passions.

From a young age, Betty embraced her Christian faith and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Natchitoches. She found great comfort in reading her Bible and cherished the book 52 Weeks with Jesus by James Merritt. She carried this deep faith throughout her life, guiding her through her years as an educator and a loving matriarch.

A graduate of Natchitoches High School, Betty furthered her education at Northwestern State University, earning a Master's Degree in Education. She dedicated her career to serving others, specializing in Special Education, where her compassion and commitment profoundly impacted the lives of her students.

Betty proudly served her country as a member of the United States Army. She remained an ardent supporter of LSU Athletics, cheering on the Tigers with enthusiasm. In her personal time, she found joy in music, tending to her plants, and exploring new places through travel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix Jerry Mercer and Annie Ernestine Taylor Mercer; her son, Tommie Joe "Trey" Beasley III; her brother and sister-in-law, Felix James Mercer and Delores Mercer; her sister, Jerre Ann Mercer; her paternal grandparents, Felix Jay Mercer and Lotta Mercer; and her maternal grandparents, Norval Frank Taylor and Lula Taylor.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Natasha Clifton (Morris); her treasured grandchildren - the delight of her life, Presley Holder, Cayden Clifton, and Teagan Clifton, who brought immense joy to her life; her daughter, Kelli McCall-Putman; and her niece, Amy Mercer.

Betty Jean Mercer ran her race with perseverance, standing firm in her faith, serving others with love, and embracing life with joy. Her legacy of service, strength, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
