Mr. Benny Ray Canerday, 78, of Winnfield, La. passed from this life on June 28, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born August 13, 1943 in Winnfield, La., to the late Sam and Ira Vee Ray Canerday.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Melissa Hayes.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, a graduate of Winnfield Senior High School and Northwestern State University where he earned a bachelors, masters, and 30+ in education.  He was a retired teacher, having taught for 35 years in Lafayette and Winn Parish.  He served six years in the National Guard.  His hobbies included fishing, hunting, running his dogs, and fox hunting.

He is survived by one son, Brian Canerday and wife Jessica of Calvin.  4 Grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, La.   To honor Benny's wishes, life will be celebrated at a private family service.  Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories in Winnfield.
