Barbara (Grissom)
Vail
Nov 27, 1941 — Apr 1, 2026
Quitman
Barbara Louise Grissom Vail, age 84 of Quitman, Louisiana, passed into the arms of Jesus on April 1, 2026 to join her husband. A woman devoted to her family; Barbara was the epitome of a 1960's homemaker. She was a good cook, housekeeper, money manager, organizer and seamstress. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting and tending to her flowers. Before choosing to be a dedicated homemaker and mother, she worked as a soda jerk at Scroggins in Jonesboro.
She loved her husband of 64 years dearly, as well as her two daughters, four grandchildren and especially her eight great grandchildren. She provided after school care, snacks and transportation for the grands and even made it a point to teach them how to play Old Maid, Go Fish and Dominos. If the grandkids were involved in any extracurricular activities from preschool through college, she was there to support them.
Her Christian service included nursery worker, hospitality and Sunday school secretary. She faithfully assisted her husband in his roles of Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
While still able, Barbara was willing to open her home and cook for any family or church fellowship. She was never too timid to feed a preacher for Sunday lunch.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Cindy Hammons, Angie Horn (Greg); grandchildren, Ashley Hines (Jeff), Daniel Hammons (Mollye), Samantha Taylor (Joshua) and Mallory Willis (Caleb); great grandchildren, Alley Hines, Evelyn Hammons, Jacob Hammons, Logan Hammons, Colby Taylor, Mason Taylor, Liam Willis and Gideon Willis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cecil Vail; father, Thurman Grissom; mother, Mildred Grissom; sister, Mary Edith McBride; brother, Bobby Grissom; and son-in-law, Jeff Hammons.
