Barbara "Jo" Castleberry Branch, a devoted patriot, gifted writer, and steadfast volunteer in her community, passed from this life on January 29, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of service, creativity, and love. Born on May 23, 1949, in Rayville, Louisiana, she was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era, Jo was the runner-up for Miss United States Marine Corps and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for her service. Her deep love of country was complemented by a remarkable talent for writing-crafting poetry and writing original Sunday school lessons that inspired many children.

Beyond her military and creative accomplishments, Jo volunteered in her community. She served as Director of the Winn Chamber of Commerce, played a vital role in the Louisiana Forest Festival, and was an enthusiastic supporter of local traditions, including the Hog Dog Trials and the celebration of Earl K. Long. An avid historian and genealogist, she worked tirelessly to preserve the past for future generations.

Above all, Jo cherished her family. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband of 40 years, Cargle Branch, Jr., who preceded her in death, along with her parents, William Berlin Castleberry and Mickey Newell Craig. She leaves behind two devoted daughters, Renee Arrington and husband, Don, and Jennifer Brown; grandchildren Garrett Sanders, Tyler Mixon and wife Raven, Ashlyn Sanders, Logan Sanders, Emilee Mixon, Carson Arrington, and Jaci Mixon; and great-grandchildren: Riley, Tatum, and River. She is also survived by her sister, Lynn Porter and husband, Fred; brother, Bill Castleberry, and wife, Linda; as well as several nieces and nephews who will carry forward her love of family and tradition.

Jo lived a life marked by faith, courage, patriotism, and devotion to those she loved. Her love of coffee and the color yellow, as well as her strength of character, kindness, and boundless creativity will forever be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her.
