Mrs. Annie Louise Elkins, age 97 of Jonesboro, Louisiana, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at her residence.  Annie was born on June 26, 1925 in Jonesboro and was a lifelong resident of Jackson Parish.  She graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School in 1943. Annie graduated business college in Shreveport and was employed as a stenographer.   She married James E. Elkins on August 11, 1946.  Annie worked for the Town of Jonesboro as the Town Clerk for over 21 years before retiring in September, 1980.  Annie was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she will always be remembered for her service in the nursery.

Annie is survived by her children, Sharon Wells of Leesville, Linda McCready of Jonesboro, and Randy Elkins and wife Beverly of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Danny Bryant, Travis Bryant and wife, Sara, Wendy Walker and husband, Bo; David Elkins and wife, Stephanie, Leigh Ann Palermo and husband Brent; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Sue Goodloe and Lois Wilke.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James E. Elkins; father, Garlon Dee Heflin; mother, Stella Gay (Stewart) Heflin; and great granddaughter, Lyla Hope Palermo.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 31, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, from 9:30 am until 11 am.  The funeral service will begin at 11 am, officiated by Reverend Brian McAlister and Reverend Trey Ethridge.

Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Bryant, Dwight Bryant, Mark Wilke, Randy Layfield, Donnie Freeman and Danny Sullivan.  Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Borland, Mike Holder, Johnny Runyon, and Travis Bryant.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Baptist Children's Home or St. Jude's in Annie's name.
