Funeral services for longtime Winn Parish businessman John Kelley Martin, Sr., will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield with Pastors Lamar Carpenter, Hayward Hossler and Bobby Bates officiating. Special music by Blake Boyett. Internment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Brewton’s Mill.

Friends may visit with the family in the Southern Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 11 from 5-8PM and on Wednesday from 8:00AM until service time.

Martin, 61, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012 in a Shreveport hospital following a courageous battle with cancer and never giving up attitude.

He spent nearly 40 years in the logging business in Winn Parish as owner of J. K. Martin Pulpwood with his father, the late John Kermit Martin. He also was owner of J.K. Martin Trucking Company. In 2006, he was recognized by the Louisiana Forestry Association (LFA) as the recipient of the Logger of the Year Award.

He was a graduate of Calvin High School, where he was a gifted athlete in basketball and softball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Kermit and Aline Kelley Martin.

He is survived by his life-long partner, Marilyn Ann Martin; one son Kelley Martin, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Winnfield; two daughters, Lacey Martinez and her husband, Jason, of Pearland, TX and Amy Martin Box of Calvin; five grandchildren, Hunter and Misty Martin, Caleb, Dylan and Noah Box; one brother, Jimmy Ray “Jim Bo” Martin and his wife Betty of Winnfield; three sisters, Mary McBride and husband James of Goldonna; Judy Thomason and husband Randy of Fouke, AR, and Janet Wyatt and husband Daniel of Weston, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Kyle Martin, Shaun James, Jarred Martin, Brent Carpenter, Troy Blundell, Frank Blundell, Ricky Holmes and George Norman.

Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Durbin, Tim Page, Ricky Kelley, Colvin Garrett, Gary Gibbs, Vernon Weeks, Ronald Dobson and William Collins.

The family requests donations be made to the Heart of Louisiana Humane Society at P.O. Box 1057, Winnfield, La in memory of John Kelley Martin.
